Battle session on Israel

The Battle of Ideas 2023 session on Israel at War is now available to watch online (see below). Although it was filmed in late October it is still well worth watching for those who want to gain a deeper understanding of the conflict.

The other speakers were Jake Wallis-Simons (the editor of the Jewish Chronicle and the author of Israelophobia ) and Lord David Wolfson ( a member of the House of Lords). Two Israeli speakers were invited but they were not able to attend because of the situation at home. Simon McKeon (an archivist and writer) chaired the event.

The session followed one on anti-Semitism the previous day ( see 19 November 2023 post) while there was also a discussion on anti-Semitism today at the Buxton Battle of Ideas on 25 November ( the video for that is not yet available).

The aftermath of the 7 October Hamas pogrom in Israel has made the rethinking of anti-Semitism a more urgent task than ever. Both the extent and character of anti-Semitism is changing. Tragically the open expression of anti-Semitic views is once again becoming respectable. It has also become clearer than ever that anti-Semitism is no longer largely confined to the far right. Woke anti-Semitism and Islamism have also become significant forces.

Under these circumstances I am keen not only to maintain this site but to extend its impact. That means raising funds.
