I am delighted to be speaking in Potsdam, Germany, on 30-31 July at a conference on “populism, anti-Semitism and the new class“. I will be explaining why the new class – essentially the modern technocratic elite – has embraced anti-Zionism.

Overall the event will examine the growing hostility to Jewish sovereignty among the educated elites. This trend has developed against the backdrop of broader antagonism towards the West and the nation state.

The conference is being organised by the Telos-Paul Piccone Institute (TPPI), a think tank, in cooperation with the Deutsch-Israelische Gesellschaft Berlin und Brandenburg (German-Israel Society Berlin and Brandenberg), a pro-Israel organisation. Among its supporters are Telos, Britain’s Spiked, the German Bahamas  magazine, the Freiblickinstitut and casa |blanca magazine.

Among the speakers will be two other spiked contributors in addition to myself: Sabine Beppler-Spahl, the chair of the Freiblickinstitut, and James Heartfield, a historian.

Other speakers include Joseph Bendersky, Verena Buser, Elhanan Yakira and Justus Wertmüller.

The keynote speakers will be Jacob Siegel, the special features editor of theTablet, and Russell Berman, a professor at Stanford.
